(Phnom Penh): United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Commission in Asia – Pacific and Austronesian Regions considered Cambodia as a prioritized country in getting technical assistants as well as other supports from United Nations World Tourism Organization to recover post – COVID-19 tourism. The expression was made in the 32nd meeting via video-conference, in evening of 30 June 2020, with the presence of His Excellency Thong Khon, Minister of Tourism of Cambodia. In the 32nd Meeting of United Nations World Tourism Organization Committee, member nations discussed and raised much about Cambodia, especially driving Cambodia to get technical assistants and other supports from WTO in order to recover post-COVID-19 tourism. Mr. Try Chhiv, Advisor to Ministry of Tourism, stated in the meeting that United Nations World Tourism Organization cited about participation of Cambodian Ministry of Tourism in compiling guidelines and recommendations to member nations of UNWTO in combating and tackling impacts of COVID-19, and recovering post – COVID-19 tourism. Stated to members of UNWTO via video-conference, H.E Minister Thong Khon underlined Cambodia’s commitment and willingness in taking part with UNWTO and other related parties to combat against COVID-19 infectious disease. Minister Thong Khon continued in process of combating against COVID-19 infectious disease, Cambodia has followed UNWTO and Inter – Ministerial Commission of Royal Government of Cambodia requiring suspicious people to be put in isolation and social distance, along with this Ministry of Tourism laid out first step tourist safety rules, in addition to COVID-10 preventive measures of Ministry of Health and guidelines of the Royal Government to enable Cambodia to prevent high effective the spread of COVID-19. Meanwhile, H.E Thong Khon confirmed that Samdech Techo, Prime Minister of Cambodia announced to take effect cash subsidy to the poor and job losers in tourism during COVID-19 crisis, and furthermore, Cambodia subsequently organized preferential tax packages in order to maintain business balance in tourism sector.
